Italy currently has their most right wing government since WW2. Georgia Meloni is a post fascist who runs a party called Brothers of Italy. The AFD in Germany is far right, and supported publicly by JD Vance Spain I know less about. As I said, always there.
I believe that Americans know better. Spain has a far right party called Vox that has little power.
I hope you’re right, I honestly do. But, if Americans knew better, how did they end up in this mess? Hatred finds a foothold. You can crush it for a bit, but it always finds the weak spots.
While I think democracy requires eternal vigilance, I don't believe that bigotry is eternal and invincible. BUT if it's to be defeated we'd better be ready for a lot of wars. Haters gonna hate. Bigots gonna bigot. For the most part there is no way to persuade them to be more civilized.
Wiping out Nazis doesn't feel unattainable to me at all, but it definitely will require massive warfare and could end in a population collapse and human extinction.

That's very possibly how our species is going to end. Bigotry & hatred are rampant and determined.
As long as the last guy standing is a good guy, we can go out knowing we’ve won :-) My money is on climate change, but war feels like a close second.
