There is very little independent media in the states. News stations are propaganda machines for trump & his minion oligarchs. FOX is an arm of the right wing Murdoch family (boycott their media outlets). Not sure what CNN is anymore. They are not independent journalists, they are TV personalities

What cemented it was that top officials went out & lied about it extensively & repeatedly on camera — some under oath. Not that this should be so. This was the bar that was salient for MSM for ongoing coverage. Sad really. Corollary: MSM continues to reinforce its view that its doing a good job.
