No reason why European missile manufacturers couldn't have built such a system themselves, and no reason why European governments shouldn't have funded it. Now European funds leave the continent, and U.S. targeting restrictions will greatly reduce the impact. kyivindependent.com/us-approves-...

It turned out to be expensive to postpone the European rearmament. Had this started in 2022, we would have been able to make more weapons ourselves and thusly expand own technology and DIB. Now we’re stuck exporting money and importing weapons.

Why not just fund more 🇺🇦 made weapons? Or are ERAM a more reliable bet?

Because more missiles is better than less missiles and missiles now are better than missiles tomorrow. Meaning, both ways should be pursued and financed to get the best results.

Fabian, (forgive me if you have written about this already and I have missed it) would you consider sharing some thoughts about what military systems Europe depends on from the US and how difficult they would be to replace, and if undertaken how such an endeavor should be prioritized?

(Or perhaps narrow down to your main field of expertise, missiles, air defence etc.)

And no guarantee that the Americans will deliver or rescind permission for them to be tagetted on Russian territory. Watch what a liar does, not what he says.

The US managed to develop it very fast it seems. Would Europe have a similar knowledge base and supply chain to replicate such a feat? It look like Trump has finally woken up the politicians here, so if the product works, it could be done.
