Someone accompanied me for my own safety when it was still legal to go. Now I have to hold it in until I’m home. I understand your POV, though. That said, I don’t think it will make it any safer. Also, making every bathroom unisex is just not feasible. Think of how much money that would cost.
If they wanted to find the money to do it, they would. They always seem to find the money magically when it is something that they want. It's not even like it's replumbing. Just taking down some walls and installing better doors for the most part.
Most cis people don’t care about trans ppl enough to do the bare minimum. Even if what you’re proposing was a solution, it would just piss half the American population off and once again leave us as the targets. They don’t even want us to exist. They’re not paying to change every public bathroom.

And if you insist on it, you just give into their belief that we can’t use the women’s restroom as it is. You give credence to the moral panic. You wouldn’t be helping us. You would be conceding that there is a problem with need for a new solution and advocating for something none of us want.
Not to be that person, but I've had living relatives who had to use the Coloreds Only restroom. Now, just decades later, how many of us even give a thought to the color of the person in the stall beside us? So, yes, sometimes integration is the key to dismantling discrimination.
But by saying there needs to be unisex bathrooms, you’re basically telling the other side we’re men and admitting to their belief there is a problem with me being in a woman’s restroom. Conservatives would have a field day with it and we would be the targets.
Nah. I'm saying it doesn't effing matter where someone takes a piss, leave people alone, and go about your damn day. How you, and they, interpret ain't on me and it won't even matter in a generation or so. But you seem mighty stuck on bathroom safety only being a trans concern. It is not.
There is no issue with trans women using the same bathroom as cis women, so why create an entirely new solution in the first place if Conservatives made up the problem to begin with? If they’re lying, why entertain it?
Because we'll keep having this discussion. Like I said originally, make them unisex and be done with. Poof! No more talking point for the conservatives. Ladder kicked right from under them. And everybody is safer.
And why would we even do that? It’s not a solution to the trans bathroom issue. No trans woman wants to be surrounded by the people who most commonly murder us. We don’t want that. We’re already scared of cis women. You know who scares us more? Cis men! I don’t want to be in that situation ever.
And safety in public restrooms is not just a trans issue. Cis Women and children have similar public safety concerns.
And those have nothing to do with what we’re talking about. Why can’t I just use the bathroom of my choice like trans women were doing for decades? Why do we have to create whole new bathrooms? It doesn’t make sense. Also, it’s not the same. You’re not the target of a government run genocide.
Here's the thing, I think we're picturing it two different ways. I see a row of solid doors, sinks in the middle, and another row of doors. No one is enclosed anywhere outside of each individual toilet pod. In my head scenario, you actually have MORE people able to see and assist.
And why can’t I just go back to using the women’s restroom the way trans women did for decades. Like, how does this fix anything? There was no problem with me using the women’s restroom to begin with!
Cis women were already peeing in a stall adjacent to a trans woman’s stall for decades. Conservatives have created a nonexistent problem that demonizes trans women as inherently dangerous to cis women. The solution is not to validate Conservative hysteria, but to rebuke it.
Trans people were using the bathroom of our choice for decades before most cis people realized we even existed. It’s much more realistic to just go back to doing things that way. Nobody is going to pay to remake every bathroom. (Especially for our supposed benefit)
