I've taken great care of myself. And people often think I'm considerably younger than I am. But I've been here for the entire ride. And I know it's short, and that it has more and more demands the further into it I get. But, it's been a good ride. And I'm thankful to have made it this far.

This is also why 50 yr old people say "I can do a cartwheel" because they just did a bunch over 30 years ago, but their body quickly reminds them that they're 50, not 20 like the brain thinks.

Noticing is the key, I think. The men I know of who were killed falling off their roofs (both good friends of my uncle, separate incidents) probably didn’t realise they had lost muscle mass and therefore balance.
I’m a chick. My 25 year old employees go up ladders now and I spend a shit load of $$ on worker’s comp insurance. I was so much cheaper when I went up ladders since I didn’t have insurance on myself. I miss being the monkey on ladders going up and down at speed

When I ask my mother when she was in her 80s how fast the days went she snapped her fingers, “Like this.” And she was active . She volunteered for the library bookstore, for the bettered women’s shelter, she went to political meeting, she went to the gym every day, she had miscellaneous clubs.

Yeah, the years are short because the traumatic memories being repressed in our minds cover the majority of every day we spent in school, at work, or just trying to survive. When you look back and the only happiness you can remember is a couple vacations you had as a kid life seems short.

The mathematical reason I've subscribed to is this. Each year is a proportionately smaller percentage of your life. When you're 5, a year is 1/5th of your life. When you're 20, it is 1/20th of your life. I'm almost 70 so now a year is gonna be 1/70th of my life. That's my story & I'm sticking to it.

I agree. The longest year of my life was between my 4th and 5th birthdays. My older siblings were of school age and had more freedom. I expected to morph into that world at 5. My grandmother turned 80 when I turned 5. I thought she'd been 80 forever. She died a few years later.
My Gram and I shared a birthday. In the 1980s she, my Mom and I took a fabulous weeklong trip to NYC to celebrate my 20th birthday & her 66th. Seems like yesterday. Now I'm late fifties and she's gone, passed in 2016 at age 96. Miss her, she was such fun. Glad I spent so much time with my family 🥰
My mom said pretty much the same thing. She said “Keep on living, you’ll get to the age where it’ll be a new year every time you turn around.” She didn’t lie. It feels like Christmas was a couple of weeks ago. Day after tomorrow is August. The next time “the bell” rings, you’ll be 50. 😄
