I think it is pointless at this stage in the election cycle. People asked for Dems to step up and defend democracy. Newsom does that very thing. The Far Left throws a hissy fit because it is him doing it and just weakens Dem support. They are just assholes who do nothing but bitch.
I think you need to work on differentiating between legitimate criticism & histrionics. This isn't football. You don't just pick a team, buy the jersey & call it a day. Even the best of us have room to grow and improve. It would be easy for Newsom to counter the criticism by changing his positions.
Again, what I have been seeing isn't legitimate, especially when contrasted with the fucking disaster currently in the White House. There is a difference between constructive criticism and just trashing someone while ignoring the dumpster fire in DC. That's my point.
So you would be happy if any criticism of any Democrat (or maybe only Newsom in particular?) opens with the statement "this isn't as bad as the fucking clowns in the white house, but..." Are you not able to just infer this sentiment?
I hear you, though I don't agree that he necessarily threw Trans people under the bus, but I could see how people would disagree with me. We will never agree on everything, but we can find a compromise. I am not familiar with the homeless situation, but it was not long ago that he was Mr. Liberal.
You can't "compromise" on guaranteed basic human rights for all people without rolling back some people's basic human rights. Might sound absolutist but that's how it is. The middle ground between "no rights" & "equal rights" is "fewer rights". Taking rights away from people is the wrong way to go.
This is all I will say to that. Utopia sounds great to most of us, but that is not the world we live in. "Don't let the enemy of good be perfect."
No need to exaggerate - we're talking about people having the right to decide whether to continue an unwanted pregnancy and the government inspecting the genitals of children here. These are *new* impositions on women & children. The way things were a couple years ago is hardly a utopian pipe dream.
He is definitely making a push for the center left, though, to become more electable. We can debate whether that is a good strategy. I think we should be thinking more about how he would govern, not parsing everything he says and does to get there. Also, need to see the whole field first, too.
