That took me a minute as well - it's their silly hats. This is amazing. I will always remember it and be amazed that we knew about the Catholic priests' fetish for harming children for at least 150 years before anybody dared to talk about it.

This is not about child rape though but about Tamany Hall and Catholic education…the Tamany Hall crowd was proposing public funding for parochial education and he saw this as contrary to democracy (and maybe potentially racist—as Irish Catholics had rioted and attacked and burned a Black school?)

Well it also reminds me of the residential school system, which is yet another expression of Christian religious zealots' incomprehensible fetish for harming children. Residential schools were also fundamentally and explicitly racist/genocidal projects as well as devouring children like alligators.
