You can't have too many. I also have the Colin Currie one, but I couldn't find it this morning. I really need to get on top of my CD filing!

Haven't listened to that in ages 😀 I have the same version from the Phases box set, but prefer the '78 ECM one (I guess they just play it that bit faster).

The ECM version is the gold standard for me, though I accept that might only be the first one I heard (aside from a radio and TV broadcasts around that time. They all have something enjoyable and engaging about them.

They've all got their excellent points but the ECM is the one for me: none of the other versions have nailed section 2 in the way that one does.

I *think* I've got all the recorded versions. My favourite version, though, is the one I saw live in 2011/12. With Reich himself on piano. Just stunning.

I don't have all the versions available on CD - current tally is seven - but happy to nab more if / when I come across them. I was lucky enough to see SR and players in the late 1980s in Leeds at a festival. Sadly, M418M was not on the programme.

Must've been quite the experience, though.

Have you heard the Amadinda Percussion Group recording, Sid? Some questionable vocals perhaps but worth a listen - quite an energetic performance.

I have the '78 ECM on LP, then the Ensemble Modern, Colin Currie, and there's a bit of M418M on Reich Remixed. I'm sure somewhere I have a CD by Bang On A Can performing it too. Plus the Phases box. It's one of those pieces that I just need lots of 😀. (Same applies to The Rite Of Spring!)

What I wanted to hear this morning was the Colin Currie version, but I couldn't find it as it was filed with the others! What started this whole thing off was stumbling across this Bang On A Can performance of it last night. youtu.be/kKO3IcvdWUQ?...
