I wanted to ask whichever recent graduate who wrote that if they knew what the Post's own photojournalists were doing on Jan 6 (embedded with Congress, hiding from attackers, etc). But apparently, the person who took the pic of the guy in the J6 hat was also there that day, but outside only(?).

The other three photos are credited to Getty Images, Shutterstock, and Reuters, they don't even appear to be photos by WaPo journalists?

Maybe that photo is meant pointedly. I’m assuming the headline writer and the photo editor are not the same person

Probably a flash. Photographers have rules around how they can edit as journalists and while I don't doubt wapo no longer cares is bad for your clips. I had a source with a really bad sty so we shot around it but couldn't photocopy it out (she was sensitive about it)

I live 10 minutes outside DC and was on 66 and the beltway today and it felt like a ghost town for a Saturday here.

Also what is that sentence structure? Why did the author put "on Saturday" in the first clause? It makes the reader think that a different date will be coming for the rest of the list. Is it just so they can avoid starting with a preposition but get the date in there ASAP?
