That’s cool! Did he happen to live near the University of Iowa? I know Ponseti was developing the method since the 50s, but it didn’t catch on broadly until much later

No; Dad spent his early childhood in Union City, NJ with easy-ish access to doctors & treatment in NYC. I don't know which hospital(s) would have treated him, but he had "state of the art" care, such as it was, in the early '50s.
