David, in this list you mentioned interest groups: 'Peers should be nominated by membership organisations. Groups with sufficient members.... charities, interest groups, etc.' That could include Tufton St type groups couldn't it, and BTW Eton is a charity, do we want them making legislation?

Membership organisations. How many members does IEA have? Perhaps there would be enough old etonians. Certainly BMA, Women’s Institute, National Trust, Police Federation, UNISON, maybe even the Boy Scouts would have enough to nominate a peer!

Very interesting. Imagine an amending chamber based on this. Some real experience and expertise. (Don’t see why trades unions should get two goes via TUC.)

Some horrible folk there though (IMO) Countryside Alliance, that's 100k folk blocking new rail lines, power lines and ensuring vast areas of land ownership kept in a few wealthy palms (probably including all the existing Hereditary Peers as well).

Oh well, that’s democracy for you! They would be overwhelmingly outweighed by the more woke organisations though.

It certainly is. Tyranny of democracy and all that.
