Watched HPV racing at Eastway once, but the riders were the vehicle owners and def not athletes as these folk seem to be. Incredible, what the diff between a streamliner and velomobile though please?

HS1 - as a case study, we built a whole new make-do station at Waterloo because we knew we'd never get the HS line off the ground in time. We were a laughing stock in here and in Europe for the way the speed of the train went from 200 mph in France to 70mph through Kent once it entered the UK.

I'm glad the businesses are surviving Neil, something like a quarter of homes on Arran are second homes. I've been taking cycling holiday groups there since the mid 00's and I've seen so many businesses fade away. V happy to see some new ones have come back.
Gary Cummins (@garyinscotland.bsky.social)
In some case this £3500 grant is likely to make the installation of separated cycle infrastructure much harder to install as it will reinforce attitudes to kerbside car storage, that the footway and road out someone's home is part of their property. www.transport.gov.scot/news/cross-p...

The council's consultation appears to be a presentation. Surely there are on street tram alternatives in which road space can be taken, and where lost entirely to drivers they can be permitted to pootle onto back street alternative road routes?
Gary Cummins (@garyinscotland.bsky.social) reply parent
Glad to hear it, so would I.
Gary Cummins (@garyinscotland.bsky.social) reply parent
I agree entirely, and always been on the side of turning cycle infra that had a former use as PT back to PT. We had former canal routes in London that are now cycle paths and looked at turning them into tram lines. I want more trams, but I'd rather see the car lobby lose out, before trams or bikes
Gary Cummins (@garyinscotland.bsky.social) reply parent
'I just feel that the current users of the Roseburn Corridor are in danger of sounding a bit like those car users who object if you take a bit of road away/...' Think of it as severing the A9 to put rail services back on a section of it that was former railway...that's the impact this will have
Gary Cummins (@garyinscotland.bsky.social) reply parent
some of the capacity on some of those. Continental countries do trams and bikes really well, it can be done. The folk who hate trams are the ones who cannot bear losing a tiny bit of road capacity to install them. I've been on the fence re Roseburn, but it would sever a fantastic well used route.
Gary Cummins (@garyinscotland.bsky.social) reply parent
But we also like other forms of sustainable travel like bikes and walking. The Roseburn Path is such valuable corridor, it's painful to picture Edinburgh without it, probably the nearest thing Edn has to continental quality infra. We have a lot more roads than bike tracks, and I'd rather we lose
Gary Cummins (@garyinscotland.bsky.social) reply parent
Lots of us love trams Peter (it's the Scottish govt that hates them, I recall Stewart Stevenson at a transport conference telling us he's no friend of the trams when transport and climate minister, and Keith Brown telling us he wants a M'way between every Scottish city when in the same post)

Congratulations to the new Co-leaders of the Scottish Greens, but a voter turnout of 12% is incredibly strange for a party whose membership one would expect to be pretty passionate and which has made real change in government. 950 votes were received in total for all candidates for this election.
