But, they do build much lighter smaller vehicles, but some people choose to but the larger ones - that's called democracy and freedom of choice.

You are not free to drive your car where you like and how you like. It’s a regulated activity that includes limitations on the vehicle build, regular inspections, insurance etc. Most of that motivated by health &safety, for good reason.
Of course, that's true, I agree there has to be a balance, but personally, I believe we are becoming an over controlled risk- averse society. Where do we draw the line. It will soon all be irrelevant now anyway unless we fight to roll back the dark forces of fascism subversively consuming us.
A person who freely chooses to buy a car that is designed in a way that makes it more likely to kill a child shouldn't be driving. And a company that sells them shouldn't be trading.
OK, you all good points and I have no reason to believe you are not good people, but where do you draw the line? What is acceptable risk for people to have a quality of life, because we're becoming so risk averse and boring, I will soon begin to wonder what the hell's the point of living at all!!
There used to be lead in the petrol, lead in paint (on babies cots!), highly polluting diesels engines, cars with no seatbelts, no laws against drink driving, asbestos in homes & offices etc. No one is arguing you can't have fun. Just be responsible about it.
I think we've made our respective points. I grnuinely wish peace and fulfilment to all. Let's move on.
I draw the line at killing, injuring or otherwise abusing children. I'm so sorry if you think that makes life boring.
You miss the point. I could kill a child in a freak accident on a bicycle. If I go hill walking I could have an accident risking peoples' lives trying to rescue me. When I played rugby - people occasionally get killed. I think everyone has a different opinion on what level of risk is acceptable.
Freedom of choice as in the USA where it's so easy to own guns and there are multiple school and other such shootings every year? SUVs are comparable to guns: useful for a tiny proportion of the public, lethal and unecessary for most (and they pollute, even as EVs, full time).
