Best thing about this #Mets series is how many #Phillies fan drove up the Turnpike to show up thinking they were going to be able to rub it in. #MetsSky #LGM 💙🧡

still in first place! citi field is miserable and dreary. #phillies #schwarbomb
If there was a stadium somewhere where the #Mets lost as frequently as the Phils lose at CitiField, I bet I’d think it was miserable and dreary too. #MetsSky
This aged really well. Having fun with the Marlins? #Phillies
Mets always play like shit against the Marlins. Very much resigned to it.
Worst fans
The character limit here prevents me from describing in any detail firsthand experience my wife, daughter and I have dealing with Phillies fans over a period of decades. Knuckle-dragging cretins.
Many have described the obnoxious and derogatory behavior of these stooges.
Does painting a large group of people with such a broad brush make you feel superior? You think #Phillies fans are treated perfectly when they attend at Citi Field? I'm a lifelong Phillies fan... some of my favorite people on this planet are #Mets fans. I hope it's a fun race to the end this year.
In Cape May this week, have had 2 meals with 4 dear friends who are Phillies fans. But my experiences are what they are, in Philly, at Citi, and elsewhere. Likewise hoping for a good September race, because much of the summer it’s looked like the Mets wouldn’t be part of it.
Appreciate this. My neighbor across the street is a Phillies fan. That's the way we approach the rivalry.
Same. I'm sorry that some r so loud and aggressive in their antics that they give the fan base a bad name ( I have had some bad experiences, some when my young kids were right there & scared) . Being a NY native, I know well what it's like to have your team hated -even when they suck ( Jets anyone).
I’ve been a Jets fan since 1968, had season tickets for years, and can’t for the life of me understand why anyone would hate them. It’s not like they have a long history of dashing other teams’ aspirations. Laugh at them, sure, but what’s worth the effort of hating there?
That is the question my family has been asking all our lives. I get hating The Bills -I hate the Bill w/ primal passion. Maybe The Jets things is a hate/mock but ppl are relentless -with Knicks & Mets too. I write it off as jealousy that we live in the greatest city in the world (or at least the US)
NYC hatred stems mostly from jealousy; NYC gets more attention than pretty much all other US cities combined. The Jets ineptitude makes it easy for the haters to feel superior, even if there’s really nothing about NY that the faceless Jets represent.
I think the Yankees buying many of their championships bleeds onto the other NY teams a bit, and New York media bias annoys folks (y'all get ALL the coverage... for better, and worse). Things have balanced a bit with the money, but the Yankees payroll used to be absurdly higher than anyone else.
All valid points. And teams like the Mets and Jets, whose records are spotty at best, make easier targets to kick when they’re down. The Yankees history makes them harder to take shots at (except for the fact that they’re Satan’s favorite team and their fans cast no reflection in mirrors).
Mets fan's don't include the Yankees as part of NY -they have an annex in the Bronx w/a border we don't cross. In a Phillies/Yankees WS, I'd root Phils-fam still salty from Bklyn Dodger days ( & NY media bias is negative 9/10 but for The Bills who most people that live downstate don't acknowledge).
Well said...far more eloquent than me...though most media attention for NY is pretty harsh. I can't think of a national outlet that cheers for NY teams ( exception The Bills who every drools for and who as far as I'm concerned are Canadian- I hate them & their "mafia"...talk about a nasty fanbase).
When cable news channels like CNN cover any sports, ~90% of the time it is when a New York team does something. The other ~10% are championship wins. Schwarber's historic night last night got zero coverage; if it had been Judge, I guarantee CNN plays it during their morning show.
Bills fans are on freaking bath salts. I think their tailgating rituals include human sacrifice and drinking blood.
Agree with both of you
I'm sure there are decent human beings that are Phillies fans - it is sad that such a large contingent r so rude, crude and flagrantly aggressive in doing things like spilling beer on heads, giving the finger & cursing, not caring that young kids are around -I've experienced it-they give a bad name.
There are bad apples everywhere. Sometimes fandom becomes beyond obsession.
Yup, and sometimes we provoke ( Knick's fans putting our jersey on their Iverson statue)...It is disrespectful to the sport when fan & player behavior takes the spotlight from the game...( though never gonna apologize for thinking that game delay for the parabolic mic was soft). I have my threshold
Yes we do have our threshold. Remember Reggie Miller, Embiid and Halibut🤬
Let's hope huge numbers of #Mets fans drive down the turnpike in September to attend the games.
No thanks. Isn’t worth having a beer poured over my head while minding my own business just because I’m wearing Mets gear. Haven’t made that trip since the Vet days.
and let them all bring parabolic mic's to hold up...that would be epic.
LOL
