He likes being able to put more money in his pocket by exploiting cheaper labor—but that doesn’t make him any different than most employers here, sadly. The fact that this exploitation is so normalized alternatives feel almost unimaginable is a large part of why we’re in the situation we are in now.

Our local community whines when people who work for it get paid minimum wage, because in Idaho minimum wage is half of that. Whiners, go clear your own snow in winter.

We are so used to underpaying people (anyone who isn’t at the very top, that is) for their work that it often seems unreasonable to pay people appropriately.

I was working part-time in the trades when contractors decided to use immigrant labor. Then the big contractors started exclusively using immigrant labor and cut out those who knew the trades but demanded a fair wage. It’s not the immigrants fault it’s greed.

Not their fault at all! But it does make me wonder whether “I have to use undocumented laborers because nobody else is willing to do the work”= “nobody else is willing to do the work and be underpaid”.

If only the USA/Canada would stop the multinationals from stealing from latin america & pay fair share so they too can prosper, then the migration north wouldn't happen. Until we stop the multinationals this issue will continue. Until there IS MORALITY BACK IN THE WH/PH, this won't stop
