A really good Caves of Qud mechanic that you can slot right into your TTRPG playgroup is examining unidentified objects. First, Describe purely what the item looks like, under the assumption that it has no practical use, just visual details. Then describe its function based on a player's die roll.

"You find a strange box with a long and flat chunk of metal sticking out of it. The metal is serrated and connected to a series of small metal links that curve in and out of the box." *player passes a check* "By pulling a string hidden in the box, the chain spins rapidly to form an electric saw."

The alien descriptions of mundane items is easily the best part of Qud's writing.

I think it's an excellent device for putting you eons away from the culture you know in the real world and is long forgotten for the people in the game. How easily do you think you could identify the function of a toilet seat cover completely out of context?
