NP abandoned me Tues. Claims my refusal of a med (2 rheums said NEVER take it) is "non-adherence & expression of non-confidence" & BCCNM complaint made her "feel unsafe & uncomfortable". I asked how putting her feels over my care is trauma-informed. She snapped I was "being inappropriate" & hung up
. In the call, I said I couldn't find anyone, get retraumatized every time I tell another clinic my life story, been repeatedly turned away, am overwhelmed, anxious, low energy & continuity. She gaslit with "You 30 days. Maybe you should've prioritized it, but you're not my patient after April 30".
. I reminded her I notified her every time a clinic turned me away and then cited duty to provide care from the college site and she was adamant she doesn't have to and that she has a right to withdraw care if she feels unsafe due to the complaint.
I told her she's not exempt from policies & has to renew my meds at least so I don't suffer harms, especially with my sleeping med, long acting opioid, ADHD med, blood thinner, thyroid med. She said "So I'm hearing you really want your opioid". I said "you have an obligation to refill everything".
The whole convo felt like a big gaslight. went to urgent care & got 2wks of refills. I had diff treatments under way & this caused undue hardship. At least the pharm offered to talk to new drs/nps & wrote a letter confirming they don't suspect misuse and I've returned leftover opioids several times.
But to add to that - even if someone is using meds differently than prescribed, it's never appropriate to dismiss them for it. Maybe look at what's being undertreated and what the patient's needs and values are. Just like every B.C. Guideline & college policy directs. Anyone accepting new patients?
