And in my experience here in my tiny town our police are often called to help deal with the homeless and sometimes take them to the hospital emergency room, or "5150" them, or sometimes take them to jail if necessary. But their job is specifically law enforcement, not the distribution of resources.

This sounds so right, so true, so "factual", yet let's fe fair and admit that that policeman was not hired to administer to the homeless, that is the pervue of the city adminstration.
