Ange leaving is the best decision for everyone - I’m just surprised Levy had the guts to pull the trigger. You can’t excuse that league performance even if he did win a trophy. It’s also a blessing in disguise for him. He talked his shit + goes out as the “winning manager” who was unfairly treated.

Great result for Ange, typically terrible decision by Spurs.. ironically probably swayed by Ange over performing in his first season. This post Kane Spurs side isn’t a top six side, will a new manager realistically finishing mid/lower table without trophies next season be seen as an improvement?

Glad he is gone, but only because he is Aussie. I think the fact everyone agrees he tanked the league for a trophy is what did it for him, but there's probably an argument that Levy should have supported with signings if they were that screwed in Jan.

What Utd did with Ten Hag would’ve forced their hand by giving them the example. If the Ten Hag situation doesn’t happen the way it does then they likely keep Ange

You can't fault the man, he clearly lost all respect for Spurs supporters at the end of the last season and rightfully so. He's going to be the new Conte, but upside down.

He guided the club through a brutal year without losing the locker room—no small feat on its own—and delivered a 🏆 I think he deserved another year to use what he'd learned this season and benefit from reinforcements. But anything less than wire-to-wire top 4 would’ve put him in Ten Hag territory.

Ray Webster @inspiraytional.bsky.social

But the thing is he should have learned from the 23/24 campaign as well, but he didn’t. He just soldiered on with the same tactics in the league this year as he did the year before. No doubt he would have done the same again next season as “that’s just who he is, mate”!

I think playing on four fronts in the EPL with a squad that wasn't built for it, while managing an extraordinary injury list, was something we literally saw him adapt to as the year went on. He gets some blame for results, of course, but Conte handed him 8th place and no Europe. Different campaign.

I think Levy saw Ange as his 4th or 5th choice manager and expected 23/24 to be a mid-table rebuilding year with no Kane a squad in slow transition. When Spurs finished 5th the "rebuild" suddenly became "we expect results now" but the roster was still thin and in transition.

I get you, but the injury excuse has been beaten to death now. Arsenal also had an extraordinary injury crisis with players of higher quality missing yet finished 2nd, Newcastle similarly. Ange had his full squad back for the final couple of months but still couldn’t buy a league win

It’s almost guaranteed that whoever comes in, probably Frank, will lose less than half the games in the league that Ange did this season. You just can’t excuse 22 league losses, the most ever for a team not to get relegated

Ange had a few transfer windows to squad build. With Arteta's six years he may have been able to stockpile more than two CBs who can play his style. As it was, when he got "his full squad back," he chose to protect indispensable players for EL games. Most fans are now fine with that trade-off.

And yes, everyone gets injuries. These guys are all over-worked by their clubs and national teams, and it sucks. But I generally hear Spurs injuries dismissed as excuses when the fact is Ange had to play a U21 team and guys just off the plane for a big chunk of the year.

Ange will be fine—and yeah, he leaves clean. Spurs, meanwhile, start a new project, again. Thomas Frank is terrific—would Levy give him the seven years Brentford has? Of course not. Meanwhile the summer transfers continues while Spurs have wasted two weeks and remain on the sideline. COYS!

I do live in north London. My point is Tottenham fans would never call arsenal fans gooners or the club the Gunners, because a nickname is a term of affection - so calling tottenham by their nickname means you like them. If you're going to pretend to be an Arsenal fan do a better job

Sacking Arteta because he didn’t win a trophy would be the exact opposite of “that”. The reason it’s a good move from Levy is because he’s basing his decision on who he thinks will do the best job next season, rather than what he happened to win last season.

No-one gets the keys to a club like Arsenal for life - they need to deliver - we'll be spending around £200m this summer, if the refs don't go all in for us again and we stay reasonably injury-free, then he needs to make that work or it's time to find someone who can

Spurs themselves have answered that ridiculous debate. No, fluking a much weakened Europa league from 17th place is not a better season than 2nd and CL Semi.

Knowing Levy and how he operates. It feels as if the trigger being pulled today has a financial aspect behind it, as to why he wasn’t sacked before today. He was appointed on June 6, 2023.
