The transfer window closing at 7pm is woke nonsense.
This is actually an all-timer window for Liverpool. Few pieces to put together yet but two blockbuster signings, refreshed their full backs, invested in youth, sold well and Guehi protects them at centre back. They’ve changed their whole side in one summer.
Why didn't you just try to win, Arne?
Cracking up at this option to buy. Hamburg have absolutely no business spending a club record fee on Fabio Vieira. Might as well make it €100m - they're not using it.
It's very easy for Zinchenko to stay; big wages, getting paid for doing nothing, keep your family in London - but damning for him as a professional. There have been several clubs in for him since January and none of them could agree terms. He won't even make matchday squads.
Szoboszlai and Konate were their best players on the day, and quite comfortably too.
Isak going to Liverpool was always happening, not sure why it took this long - guess both clubs needed to play the game at various points. Difficult not to feel discouraged by that; he's the best centre forward around and (when fit) makes Liverpool much stronger.
Any critique of Arteta playing a cagey gameplan would have to be levelled at Slot, who did the same — except with all his best players, at Anfield. Anything else is post hoc fallacy.
I was genuinely shocked at the reaction today. Yes, we were conservative (and probably made the changes too late) but Liverpool were equally cagey and with a full team - except for Szoboszlai at right back who ended up being their match winner. We are a good team and will make points up.
Man, I don't usually let abuse get to me but some of the reaction on X (shock) has been so aggressive. Said there's not much we can do about Szoboszlai smacking one top bins and people are ANGRY. That place is toxic. There will be lots of good content coming and we go again after the break. 🤝
FT: Really disappointing to lose that way. Think Arsenal played well in the first half but lost their grip on things, and we weren't efficient enough in the final third when we had chances. Liverpool created nothing but someone whacked the ball top bins from 30 yards. That's how it goes.
Not much you can do when someone cracks it top corner from 30 yards. Those are the margins.

HT: Very scrappy game but thought Arsenal did well - especially with Saliba going off so early. We tried some different things OOP and Liverpool couldn't get going at all. Mosquera looks assured, Madueke very dangerous out wide - that's obviously the ball. We look secure.
Raya has killed Zubimendi there. He can see the whole pitch, that pass was never on; and it's not the first time he's done that.
That's good from Madueke. We need him to run hard, in the space behind Kerkez - an obvious weak point today.
Needed more from Martinelli there. So clunky and indecisive.

Had a feeling Merino would start if Odegaard wasn't quite fit enough (I thought he would be). Rice and Zubi have looked good as a double pivot, so Merino will probably play ahead of them as a number eight/ten; bit suffer-ball but the front three is transition heavy.
Some really strong and committed defending there from Brighton.
Shakhtar selling Brazilians who sound like yer mate from the pub for big money again. Nature is healing.

It's not a question of quality, but we quite literally need him gone because his exit affects whether or not we sign Hincapié (who we clearly want).
I don't think it'll be €60m, probably more €45-50m - it's still a lot!
Honestly that's fine. Would have liked €30-35m but our options were limited once he decided against staying in the Premier League. He needs to play, we need him gone, thanks for stepping in last season and all the best.

Woltemade is really fun (and a bit of a unicorn), considering his size, technique and flair. He reminds me of Dimitar Berbatov - just 10cm taller and obviously not as good. Stuttgart are laughing at €80-90M though and they leveraged Newcastle's desperation. He joined them for free 12 months ago!

11 minutes is the most dangerous injury time in football.
Worth noting that he's quite capable going forward too. Leverkusen have Grimaldo at LWB, but Hincapié has played there and likes to get forward on the overlap - can drive through half spaces as well. Plays more advanced for Ecuador with Willian Pacho at LCB.
Still depends on outgoings but you can see the logic in pursuing Hincapié. Can play CB + LB, quite a typical South American defender in that he wears his heart on his sleeve. Aggressive, quick, can be rash but always positive - good age profile too. Let's see what happens.

I've sat through 18 months of analysis about how Arsenal lack freestylers, mavericks. Obviously it has some merit but I can't put myself in the headspace about where Eze plays. He will play because he's a good player who offers Arsenal things they don't have. And he's fun. Football should be fun.

This makes no sense at all. I don’t care if he’s unhappy, he’s under contract - one that he signed with his own hands. You never know what can happen in the transfer window and now we’ve made his wages even harder to pick up.
Trossard has been a great signing for Arsenal. I still don't understand why he deserves a salary increase when we've signed Gyokeres + Madueke, who arguably put him down the pecking order in two different positions. He's also a sellable asset - why make him comfier on a bumper deal?

It took until October 5th for any of the three promoted sides to win a game last season. Sunderland and Leeds have both won their opening games this season. Maybe a good omen for their survival prospects.
A big three points and important start to the season - but the less said about that performance, the better. We looked so short technically and weren't our usual selves physically; but we'll always battle when needed. Lots to (hopefully) improve before Leeds.

There are always other players but Eze going to Spurs will sting a bit. I've always loved the player, think he brings us something different and the romantic side of him "coming back" would have been such a lovely story. Hope the club have something else up their sleeve.
