Being harassed by British Gas, to pay an £220 invoice for work they never actually did, is a world of fun.

Drop the magic word Ombudsman at them. Start a resolver complaint.

Thanks. Wife is currently talking to them (she’s supposed to be the main contact now, but they keep texting me, despite that). I’ll keep the O word in mind!

I was harassed by British gas for a whole year when I bought my first house. They wanted me to pay for the 3 months it was empty before I actually bought it. Then after a year they just said they'd written off the debt and I never heard from them again.

They’ve told me they (or rather their minions Dyno) did the work on 3/7. Apparently me pointing out that they didn’t come here on that day is not enough to cancel the invoice, in this post-truth world.

Were they supposed to come on the 3/7? Have they billed you for a missed appointment or is it scam/clerical error?

No. They had several previous appointments which they missed (sickness, part not in stock, then just not turning up or calling) so I said I wasn’t going to make any further appointments until they gave some assurance they’d honour them. They went quiet until they started trying to bill me. Twats.

Presumably the work still needs doing? If so I'd guess BG won't be able to fix it as that would mean admitting it hasn't been done [adequately] in the first place.

Well I’m not really sure how much it needed doing in the first place. It was fitting a magnetic filter to our boiler. It wasn’t a repair, as that would have been covered by our home care agreement. It wasn’t made clear to me what the benefits of having it, or the risks of not having it, were.

WTF? British Gas wanted to reduce their insurance premium so charged you for upgrades which make failure less likely? What benefit do you get out of it?

You might very well think/ask that. I couldn’t possibly comment.
