So you're saying that Starmer should talk the Country down and say how shit our position is, damaging all sorts of market confidence and investment, in the hope that we can be pitied by the EU. It's not as simple as you suggest.

You're assuming but you're wrong. I voted for Remain but I recognise that Brexit broke the UK. Entering that fractious situation while the country is a tinderbox seems to me to be a bad idea and I'm just trying to be rational. Rejoin is a longer term endeavour and we are where we are unfortunately
