I keep seeing these people I thought I would never have to think about ever again. Liz Bruenig. Megan McArdle. Now Kathryn Jean Lopez. Ugh.

Wow Kathryn Jean Lopez is still at it? She was the single saddest writer National Review has employed in this century, which is really saying something.
Super creepy weirdos
Am I incorrect in understanding that K-Lo is definitely not 22 and also isn’t married?
Get them a time machine immediately so the can dictate what Taylor Swift does with her body.
So apparently this IS the medical term for pregnancy in women 35 or over (or was, the page I'm linking says "Advanced Maternal Age" is preferred) But still, 35 is hardly an old woman my.clevelandclinic.org/health/disea...
Might? It absolutely would.
Fucking gross
More likely kicked in the nards
Bellow the belt, absolutely, here for it.
I need a third arm to punch them all
These people don't believe that bodies are private property
When my wife told me that while she was in school I was like “oh boy, I know the best low key insult for my enemies now”
Damn. Lopez actually made a point to comment on *this*? Of all things?
BRB starting a social program to help right wingers reenter society, the Steel Chair Foundation. Every time they say something like this, they get hit until they stop.
How the ... like how do people ever think like this?
They literally only talk to each other.
A lot of people didn't get the toxic "caring" she sang about in "But Daddy I Love Him," but boy did she nail it.
The Carneys are some of the strangest and dumbest people still posting at the other place
Gross these people are so weird!!!
Just an extremely, profoundly weird line of thought
If MBD had the slightest amount of shame, he'd have shut his stupid face years ago.
Fucking loser ass losers man
I find some Swifties a bit much at times, but literal Gaylors are more normal than these absolute freaks
Why always so WEIRD
These people are so strange
Wow she’s having a baby at 35 and these dudes are 43 and haven’t even had sex yet
I love these men who think we turn into geriatrics after 30. Like, wow! Way to wear how much you hate women right on your sleeve.
He's actually 100% correct about one thing - Obstetricians refer to all pregnancies over the age of 35 as geriatric.
They don’t use that term anymore btw
yeah but it's just called that because it's a (fairly arbitrary) threshold where rates of certain age-related complications in pregnancy are higher. Like he is right that it's called that, but it also doesn't really mean anything.
Yes, men decided to use the word "geriatric" and other men like you say, yep, sounds about right Not a single body part of a women's reproductive or sexual health is named after a woman, just the men who decide what's geriatric pregnancy or premature menopause and on and on
Well, misogyny in the medical industry is nothing new, either. So no surprise there.
It’s a medical term that didn’t originally have these connotations.
Now it's a misogyny term used to shame women. We never get to pick the terms men use against us, but we point out what they have become.
They don’t, that specific term has been retired and many doctors want to move the age up anyway (some evidence ~38 is a more meaningful cutoff)
That's good to hear - when we're going to the fertility clinic, that's the only term they ever used.
Mansplaining pregnancy
I'm merely repeating the only term they ever used for my wife when we were going to the fertility clinic - that was only like 7 years ago.
And I have seen doctors suggest that fathers over 40 be considered "geriatric".
And they should be. Their quality declines around the same time women’s does.
I wish it had been retired but it hasn't. My wife was age 37 when we had our first, and yeah, we heard the term "geriatric pregnancy" throughout the process.
Thanks, I hadn’t heard about this! If I’m remembering the graph correctly, 35 is where the risk of aneuploidy starts to increase, but makes sense that the increase wouldn’t really be meaningful until later (and/or other risks might not kick in until later)
nice, when did they ditch the term? I know my friend's ultrasounds all noted that she was geriatric when she was pregnant with her first, in 2018
I understand the preferred term is “advanced maternal age”
I think within the last five years
ah, right in the sweet spot where 20% of people are stubbornly refusing to make the switch, 30% are trying but slip occasionally, and 50% haven't heard about the change yet lol
That is technically the term used so I’ll let that slide but she’s healthy and has $$$. Having a baby for her won’t be an issue IF and big IF she wants one. Also it’s no one’s business but T&T if they even want kids so this whole convo they’re having is just icky
Not an original thought, but these people are just weird.
They will lose their shit if Taylor has a kid via surrogacy.
Or IVF!
Or decides not to have any!
