There’s walls of text explaining things but they don’t really help with understanding, if that makes sense.

There's several layers to it. What is happening in this arc: power struggle on boat Why does it matter: unclear How does that ability work: um What implications does it have for the wider series: idk Why is Hisoka here: I think Togashi likes Hisoka. Why write this: Togashi needs rent money?
I understand the first layer and basically nothing else lol
doesn't even have the good sense for killua to be there
Yeah that's the back half of hunter x hunter in a nutshell
I’m beginning to see why people say they wished it ended with Chimera Ant
Nah the boat is good its just purely made for togashi's self satisfaction. It's all a gaiden story for him to fuck around with until hes dead the story ended when gon went home. Kurapika gets some great stuff stick it out for Kurapika and Bill's bizzare adventure
In the jump version of one chapter that is full of text (I'm assuming this is the one you are talking about) the panels didn't even have drawings. It was just several full speech bubbles divided into different panels.
between those pages and the ones with complicated math diagrams, hxh sure feels unique, but me personally I don't enjoy those that much
at the time there was even discourse about viz's translation "dumbing down" the chapters by using fewer words, it was something I have never ever witnessed when it comes to jump manga (I'm assuming this ain't a spoiler, since the pic is low resolution and only has 2 generic drawings.)
YEP THAT’S THE ONE
man...that one page spawned so many great parodies such as this db one Togashi is really the one
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I mean I have run into a few pages like this but I’m not sure it’s the one you’re referencing 😵💫 not a good sign
I mean Togashi's drawings are amazing, when he decides to draw and not just write. I really do respect the man. But sometimes he just Togashis too much
Ngl, I’m mostly into the Succession War arc for the vibes. So long as Krapika keeps Slay Queening and the Spiders keep being effortlessly cool, I’m down for this
There -are- cool moments like that. But it’s the first time I’ve felt like Togashi is not a complete master of the form and I’m only enjoying portions of the work.
Weirdly enough, I actually think his infrequent publishing makes it easier to swallow. Dropping 10 chapters in a row once every 2 years makes it easier to forgive myself for not keeping up with every little detail and subplot.
I remember that Hisoka/Chrollo, and just laughing at the sheer complexity and amount of text in that. And then we get to the boat!!
*Hisoka/Chrollo fight
That fight was the canary in the coal mine, oy
