From the Politico article : "There’s also evidence that the virus doesn’t spread easily outdoors, especially if people wear masks." And this House report from 7/5/2020 docs.house.gov/meetings/VC/... says no spike from protests.

Then *everyone* should have been allowed to have large outdoor gatherings. But they weren't.

Maybe. At that point the cost/benefits analysis was uncertain. The George Floyd murder was so outrageous that I don't think many protestors were waiting for permission. And certainly it depended where you were since there was no coherent federal policy. Condolences to you on your brother's passing.

We had them at my club. No local officials stopped or prevented our outside gatherings.
