i think some people would describe it as science fantasy. it's set in far future earth, after countless high technology civilizations, and the current world has a very limited ability to make new tech (the ore is mined out, etc.) so it's largely preindustrial + some salvaged high technology.
it's on the internet archive if you'd like to give it a try! i think if the setting sounds appealing it's worth giving it a chance. the prose is pretty wonderful.
