Regardless of semantics, literally taking someone else’s national identity isn't ok. When Americans use Canadian flags as a disguise, it steals from our identity & can hurt us abroad. Canada’s reputation isn’t a costume to wear when it’s convenient.

I understand your concern, but any meaningless individual that could harm a nation's reputation with a backpack patch (of many) doesn't say much for the reputation. Now if someone was actually telling people they were Canadian & travelling on US docs, that might be different.

Respect & identity play a big part here. Canadian symbols aren’t decorations, pretending to be Canadian for convenience treats a whole nation like a costume. It’s less about not misrepresenting who we are.

A Canadian is telling people not to pretend to be Canadian. That should be reason enough instead of arguing with me about why it doesn't matter for someone to fake their nationality. Would it be acceptable for Americans to pretend to be British or Irish?

What an individual wants to do doesn't bother me at all since I'm not faking a nationality. It's a backpack patch. And when I've partied with Canadians in person, I've never heard a complaint. I have been told that it's probably a smart move in some places.

I'm sorry you are so triggered, but good luck trying to police the world. Strange that I've never heard a single Canadian complain in person - the exact opposite actually. A Ukrainian Tryzub patch doesn't mean someone is cosplaying a Ukrainian either, but it will get you free beers from Ukrainians.

I'll take things that never happened 🙄 That dismissive attitude is exactly why Trump feels entitled to trample on Canada’s sovereignty. Fyi, Canadians do complain, but usually with tact. The problem is, people who insist on disrespecting others ignore tact, so bluntness is needed.

I'm not triggered but blunt, fed up & standing up for my country. Need it spelled out? Americans, stop pretending to be Canadian. If you’re so embarrassed about your own country, fix it, don’t wear ours, you're not entitled to it.
