Believe it or not, this is true. Loni didn't own a car before she got the job performing on WKRP in Cincinnati. After she was hired, she was able to get a credit card. It was one of the first things she did after she was cast for WKRP. She told Johnny Carson she bought a Yugo, on her credit card.
