Good for Pluto. I also feel that what other people think of me is none of my business.

That is correct. Pluto is a total badass!
#Pluto is not like the eight larger planets. Dwarf planets are indeed different. If you want to get all nostalgic for your childhoods then fine, but please at least respect the science. Sol has either eight planets, or as many as 17. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dwarf_p...
Pluto will always be a planet to me.
Did Pluto ever get justice? It tried to 2017 www.sciencetimes.com/articles/108...
"Pluto, the Gen X of celestial bodies..."
💪
Just a Mickey Mouse planet.
yeah, i respect our scientists but i think they are looking at this wrong so no, i won't stop considering it a planet. simply, if its not a moon, it's a planet. now maybe it's not a planet of this solar system but since it continually revolves around our sun, i think it belongs in our solar system..
also we know so little of the universe how pompous of us to start so rigidly classifying things. im certain will be our 9th officially in future with more discoveries made. this prolly only thing i disagree with scientists on, well one of a few things. im really pro science lol
Classification and consensus are cornerstones of science. That we can downgrade it and acknowledge it's not really a planet demonstrates how much we do understand.
I think you just might not know why the reclassification happened. It would probably change your opinion if you looked into it.
no, i understand why it happened, i also understand the classification was argued and still the dissenters views were not addressed, just outvoted. now i respect consensus but dissenters had reaaaaly good points, lol. i go into more with someone else in more of the thread
Comets continually go around the sun. Are they planets? There are other things than planets and moons in here. Pluto is the king of dwarf planets, but it's still smaller than our moon. Hell, it's smaller than Russia itself.
course comets aren't planets, not talking about those.
Pluto is VERY MUCH closer to being a comet than a planet. Sorry to break it to you. Most of its weight is ice. :(
does it have a core though? i don't think composition means much and it has a spherical shape that satisfies one of the criteria of planethood.
It is spherical ✅, but: -Hasn't cleaned its orbit, as it crosses Neptune's. ❌ -Doesn't really have a moon, but rather it goes around a center of mass OUTSIDE Pluto with Charon. So they both go around in an harmonic dance. It's technically a dual planetary system. ❌ -It sometimes grows a tail. 💀❌❌❌
Also mind that Eris, a further dwarf planet in the scattered disc, is more massive (but slightly smaller), spherical, has a moon and is very much a better candidate if we included it in the planet list. However, its orbit is not cleared as well. So not planets: kings of the asteroids.
Neptune, Jupiter, even Earth haven't cleared their orbits either. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clearin...
Trojans in Jupiter are considered part of a clear orbit, because they follow Jupiter in lagrange points. Its stupid to compare that situation to Pluto's, whose orbit is inside the Kuiper belt. As both orbits are *not* the same, we can compare individually Neptune's and Pluto's orbits... +
And Neptune's is basically empty (>99% of the mass is in the planet), while Pluto is basically another round big ball of ice, basically. For further discussion, you can check on the internet where there is basically endless info.
Besides, it was only the human earthlings…
Seems like people who don't know what classifies as a planet can't seem to get over that Pluto doesn't qualify. Ffs
But planets and planetoids don't think
And in your horoscope, it still affects you, so what the hell?
It’s also now the holotype of a whole new kind of celestial body. In a way it’s even more special than even Earth itself
I’ll have to drop the period from “Mary’s violet eyes make John stay up nights PERIOD”
go pluto
PDGAF!
True
But, we put that gold disc on the two Voyager spacecraft that shows the position of our planet in relation to 8 others in the solar system. Which means, someone's gonna have to go out there and change the discs. 😡
🤣
Shhhhh. The brain eating extra-galactical creatures won’t find our Solar system now.
😂
Nah ~ Even the most famished among the mind-munchers filter their search criteria for "3 stars or higher"
😂
🤣🤣🤣
😂
It means they'll look at the discs, look at our solar system, then give it another 10,000 years before they visit because we're clearly too stupid to know our own solar system
Then Eris, Haumea, Makemake, and Ceres would all have to be plants too.
Das kam genau zum richtigen Moment. Danke für's Bild. 👍

Pluto sent a message saying that after the 2024 Earth elections, it's very happy to have been kicked out of the planet status. It doesn't want to be in the same category as Earth.
That bitch is stone cold crazy
We love Pluto
*It's just Platonic relationship but I do love Pluto...
It's a plutonic relationship.
Goofy is ok with this too! He still walks Pluto around the Sun every day!
I scrolled too far to find this
I still include it when I do my have I gone crazy test
You heard about Pluto, right? That's messed up.
Pluto is a Honey Badger.
So Pluto is the first in a new classification of objects that orbit the Sun called plutoids because scientists keep discovering plutoids that are way the fuck out there, so rather than complaining about planets, Pluto is the granddaddy of the plutoids. Just saying
It’s still my 9th planet and always will be!
🤣🤣🤣
Normally I listen to the science, but I still think of Pluto as a planet & I've always lived the idea of a planet Pluto.
Really, Pluto should still be a planet. If we can get the International Astronomical Union (IAU) to reconsider Pluto’s classification as a planet, bring popcorn because the meeting promises to be entertainingly animated!
Really, Pluto was never a planet. It was miscategorized for decades.
So you claim!
"I don't need your acknowledgment or approval to exist" ....asserts self-worth and autonomy. 😂
Well . . . . No. We do care what other people think about IF THEY VOTE!!!
Pluto was demoted because he wouldn't stay in his lane. He kept piggy backing off Neptune's gravity* and crossing his orbit. That's against the Planetary Club rules. *Not 100% certain on this part. My differential calculus is, at best, weak.
And it still hasn't completed an orbit since discovery.
It won't until 2170. It's not even halfway there.
You are correct sir. Unfortunately this platform restricts the number of characters and thus hinders my attempts at brilliance interpolated with clever witticisms.
I was going to post that 😊
Mythologically speaking Pluto is the doorway to Hades the asteroid field, it's a pile of rubble and ice without light so tyg. It's a dwarf planet because it has a nitrogen atmosphere.
I would doubt it would. It's always been the 9th planet to me. Whatever reason they were saying it wasn't back then sounded boring so I played videogames. I'm usually right about these things. Seems I was right and didn't miss a thing.
" It's always been the 9th planet to me. " Yes, because that was the categorization since 1930. The categorization changed.
It’s still 9th planet
It appears Pluto doesn’t revolve around the thoughts of others. More research is needed in this area
or, alternatively, Pluto cares very much
..yet it hates to be treated like a dog, and a merely two-dimensional one at that.
Tom Cardy agrees. youtu.be/EuRjmzz6qL0?...
Those were male scientists that downgraded Pluto because they are hung up on size. They also use the slur dwarf to describe it
So, I'm legitimately curious, is this why people are weird about the taxonomy of celestial bodies being updated? Because it meant a song they learned as a kid isn't up to date, and they chose to accept the reality of simple childhood knowledge over the current view in a scientific field?
Which is why I still adore this, my fave Schoolhouse Rock song, exactly as it originally was. I figure next they'll say Jupiter is too big to be an official planet then the remaining 7 planets will be too medium so our solar system will become a bunch of nothingburgers except maybe Earth 🙂
"I figure next they'll say Jupiter is too big to be an official planet" There are lots of objects of similar size to Pluto in the solar system but if you find lots of objects of a similar size to Jupiter in the solar system, you can probably win a Nobel.
it is still a planet according to everyone else too. it's a subclass of planet known as a dwarf planet
Wow. Are dwarfs also considered a subclass of human?
that's quite the leap
It is. Sorry that went south.
Dwarf Planet Lives Matter!
Damn Right They Do!
Rude. Let's not mass shame planets, shall we?
there is no shame in being a dwarf planet! that's just how it coalesced
Well I for one don't support astronomic apartheid and you should be ashamed. (/S just in case)
🤣🤣🤣
I bet Pluto isn't on the Epstein list. Be like Pluto.
Not Uranus.
🤣
Useless argues about semantics. Pluto is a rogue planet that got captured by the Sun. AFAIK but Pluto has never completed an orbit around the Sun
It's not a very useful argument but it's not semantics, you have to agree on a definition for words otherwise if you say "planets" nobody will know what the size of the group you're talking about is.
Pluto is beautiful ❤️
Besides, Pluto-Charon constitute a double planet, but scientists can't accept that. They were raised under monaural monotheism and monogamy, and some keep seeking the single unifying theory of stuff. They need to accept stereo as better.
@ the peak of planetary popularity
Pluto is roughly 2/3 the size of earth's moon.
*So it can’t sit with the cool kids in the cafeteria?
Tis weeny.
Pluto wasn’t called a dwarf planet when I was in school! . . . . . . . . . . They hadn’t discovered the dwarves living on Pluto back then.
😂
Pluto will always be a planet to me. They only removed it because apparently people are too lazy to remember more planets if they added the other dwarfs. Like, people can recall dozens of Pokemon, super heroes, songs, books etc, but not an extra six or so planets.
Pluto is the honey badger of our solar system
Pluto is a honey badger. He don’t give a fuck
Pluto is the king of the kuiper belt, it has no need for earthlings petty squabbles. It also gots a big ol heart on it
The United States is bigger than the rock, Pluto.
Pluto is still a planet to me 🙂
I will too
You go on with your bad self Pluto
I remember hearing this on the news and thinking, oh shit, how long have not known how many planets we have 😬😬
For the overwhelming majority of time. Though to be fair, for the overwhelming majority of time humans didn't exist.
one of my favorite quotes.
Pluto is a planet. Very powerful as well! #transformation
Holy crap! Pluto = Gen X
Still my 9th planet. ❤️ Pluto
2/2 Sometimes, the tools we have limit our understanding, until years later we invent a new tool that tells us more. From lens telescopes to reflectors & radio telescopes, space sited, they gave even more data. We have gas spectrometry & even look at the sun. Science doesn't stand still. It evolves.
And sometimes it doesn't actually evolve, it just changes to accommodate opinions and whimsy. Pluto is a planet and I don't give a fuck what some astronomer says. Just add the rest of the dwarf planets ffs.
The new requirement to meet 'planet' status is stupid because it relies on only our solar system to confirm its applicability. That's not even good science, that's laziness! For all we know there are extra-solar planets larger than Earth that fail that criteria.
You could create any number of stupid arbitrary rules to single out a planet. You could say a planet can't harbor life in order to single out Earth. You could say a planet must rotate in the same direction as its orbit to single out Uranus.
Those are stupid arbitrary rules based on one solar system, same as 'must dominate its orbit.' What the hell you're gonna argue when we find a binary planet system? What if, something knocks Charon off orbit and now Pluto is dominating its orbit? What's gonna be the next stupid goal post?
Like, they could have avoided embarrassing themselves and cornering themselves into a future logic hole if they just declared Charon a planet and Pluto-Charon a binary-planet system and then brought in other dwarf planets. But no, they had to be lazy and retarded about it.
Pluto is a fucking planet. Not sure if NASA has any fucking brains.
1/2 This is why science is such a wonderful subject. We describe the world about us through many different scientific lenses/ professions. Geology, climatic, marine, environment, astronomy, and so on. Sometimes, they disagree about findings, and research is used to settle such arguments.
Pluto was a planet, Pluto is a planet, Pluto will always be a planet.
🤣
Pluto is the Honey Badger of planets 🤣
Pluto has no idea what others think about it. Pluto is not self-aware. Don’t be like Pluto.
Nice
Also, try to keep in mind that the thing we call Pluto identifies as a orbiting celestial object. It exists on its own in a completely safe excitement free of our judgment. And it asks for nothing in return for its right to remain in its space.
Can't have a "new planet" being the 10th (X in roman numerals) so had to declassify it...
Pluto may no longer be considered a planet up here *points to brain* but it’ll always be considered a planet in here *points to heart*
Why was it removed?
Lots of other objects a similar size to it were discovered.
If Pluto ever manages to grow in mass and clear its orbital path, perhaps it can be called a planet again. Until then, it belongs in the dwarf planet category. Pluto is still Pluto and, as you say, does not know or care what we call it.

Pluto was always my favorite and will remain so regardless of classification.
Pluto doesn't have to work for the white man empire 8 days a week; if we are lucky, it's 5.
*Pluto doesn't think
And you know this, how, exactly?
Sounds like Donald Trump
Pluto was never a planet, and was only considered so for so long because an American discovered it.
Technically, Pluto is a comet but it's too far from the Sun to have a tail.
It could be quietly planning it revenge.

I still blame Neil deGrasse Tyson. Pluto was a lovely little planet full of hope and joy.
Pluto is the ninth planet.

😂
And it takes it sweet motherfucking time cuz it's gangster.
Not to be confused with plutocracy.
Obviously I am not planet .
Hmm sure but that feels Maga to me
Heard that there are literally thousands of other Kuiper belt micro planets like Pluto and even more in the Oort Cloud.
Pluto is also lucky to be known in the solar system and beyond, by at least one species!
lol, i don't hold it against him, he is still pretty awesome.
Well maybe you should agree with him.
i do on 99% lol.
I like Pluto. Hope it’s ‘round for a long time.
Exactly. Cellestial laws of attraction apply to domesticated mammals as well.
Pluto don't give any fucks.
youtu.be/kK0KPuH32mc?...
Looking at how things have gone since 2006, perhaps demoting the planet named after a Romon God of Death wasn't the best idea?
🤣
We are not best known for our wisdom.
....Imma bully Pluto.
We can all learn something from Pluto. No, not THAT Pluto.
The dwarfs are coming...2027.
I fell the same way, I could care less what most people think of me. Not my problem if you don’t like me.
Disenfranchised?
Let Pluto be Pluto!
Pluto is now if anything in the more impressive status as king of the dwarf planets, bit yeah, at the end of the day it's a big ball of ice and rock and doesn't care what anyone thinks.
Its round. Its geothermally active. Its a fucking planet.
Is Mars not a planet then? Are the Gas Giants not planets?
What are you talking about????????? My post was in support of Pluto being put back into our family of planets.' (I was an astronomy major in my first year of uni)
Mars is geological dead. We don't know enough about the actual solid mass of the gas giants to say anything conclusive about them, but they likely don't have much going on down there simply due to the gravity.
Pluto is geologically active. Interior heat is causing large sections of the ourter frozen (methane) crust to rise up and turn over. I believe this is occurring in the region known as the "heart".
So if that makes Pluto a full planet (rather than a "dwarf planet") then logically Mars shouldn't be considered a planet.
Don't waste my time.
👏👏👏
Also, considering the eccentricity and distance of its orbit, Pluto may not KNOW it’s no longer a planet.
…enjoying my inclined orbit…
Please confirm @noahlugeons.bsky.social
My favorite philosopher is Pluto. He's almost always happy, forgiving the chipmunks for harassing him, he's loyal to Mickey, and always stops to smell the flowers, even if a bee comes out of it and attacks him, meaning, he's a hopeless optimist.
My favorite is Apollo. No, you won't find him out there in space. You will find him in my backyard, hunting squirrels, only to run away when they attack...(yes, we have attack squirrels).
Pluto: Removed as a planet; still does its job.
Why are so many people still all emotional about a scientific classification change? Nothing about Pluto changed, just our understanding of it. And that actually improved. The story behind the change is fascinating. It started with the discovery of Pluto's slightly larger buddy, Eris.
Good for Pluto. To hell with all those Haters. 👍😂💪
Pluto's right. But it's lonely out here just drifting along by ourselves.
yeah, Pluto doesn't give a **** what you think about it 🤣
Well yeah, cause Pluto is awesome.
According to the Voyager Dics, Earth's location was shown relative to 8 other planets. Until thats not fixed, Pluto will still be a planet. Forever and always.🧡
...and it's much better than being Uranus.
I've been called a planetoid all my life. Usually by those who got rejected from my gravity well for being too fast and irregular.
😌

Pluto, the honey badger of the solar system.
You do you, Pluto.
Wow, that's cold.
It has a very different orbit around our Sun.It tumbles with Charon,it's moon,in a corkscrew around our Sun ,forever falling in a haphazard dance off kilter from the rest of the plane of our planets. Then our entire solar system rotates like a corkscrew around the galactic center.
Nice try Liberal! I'm still going to wear my Make Pluto a Planet Again, hat. Why? Cause I ain't got shit else to do, I'm old, and I hate change.
Well then, the older I get, the more like Pluto I become.
Pluto has what's called in astrophysics "elegant self esteem".
The Almanac still mentions it.
I hope Pluto gets pissed and resets it's trajectory to target earth. Go ahead, make my day.

youtu.be/EuRjmzz6qL0?...
Yes & the earth was a sphere orbiting the sun throughout all of the millennia that Man—Foolishly Man, that puny creature of a day—thought the earth was flat & the center of the Universe! It took the Vatican ~350 years to admit it that Galileo was right & it, wrong. A few fools still think otherwise
Galileo was wrong, though. His model was of perfectly circular orbits, while Copernicus had an earlier, more correct elliptical model that the Church had acknowledged first, and brought up as basis for questioning Galileo's theories. It was Galileo's vitriolic response that got him in trouble.
Copernicus didn't use ellipses-he still used epicycles. It was Kepler who used ellipses,& Galileo ignored his works despite Kepler sending him copies. The scientific consensus at the time was however still for the Tychonic model due to lack of stellar parallax & fitting with Aristotelian physics
Incidentally, IF you have the time, IF you have the inclination, IF you have the patience; kindly advise if you are able, if his report i read a few years ago has got alll the facts backwards: www.nytimes.com/1992/10/31/w...
Thank you. You'r right but Galileo was at least partly right. The Vatican was 100% wrong for ~350 years after Galileo pointed out the error of the time. There are still flat-earth proponents with us to this day. But then I, like whoever posted this on Wikipedia, are as wrong as wrong can be!
The Roman Inquisition acknowledged heliocentrism in 1758,when empirical evidence came. But Heliocentrism turned out to be wrong too-the Sun isn't the centre of the universe. Galileo was right that the Earth moved, but Pope Urban's instrumentalist position was closest to the Relativistic position.
The Catholic Church never taught flat Earth. Modern flat earth theory was started by Samuel Rowbotham in the 19th century. Heliocentrism was acknowledged correct by the Roman Inquisition in 1758 when it was dropped from the index. The 1st empirical evidence arrived in 1728 with Bradley aberration.
Thank you for the education.
Fun fact: Since the discovery of Pluto, it has not completed one full orbit around the sun.
Neither does climate change - it is what it is whether Magats want to believe it or not. It's science not Santa Claus.
I never gave a chit what people think. You can't care about those you dont respect.
Pluto also doesn't put up any resistance as it is relentlessly thrown around by its own moon.
Is it really printing the sun? No one has seen it orbit the sun. Maybe it's trolling us?

Totally agree with the sentiment, but Pluto isn't a planet. Scientists are right there.
🙄Yeah instead they list it as a dwarf planet🤦🏽♀️but "experts" isnt that still a oh I dont know "planet"? I really actually hate it on earth because I live among too many idiots. 411 just because its smaller doesn't mean its not still a "planet" yall kill me with ur man-made ideals
That’s why it’s orbit is not on the ecliptic 😎
