Cruel racoons killed a mother quail by eating out her heart- her hollowed out chest & body left on my doormat this morning. Note to self: Bring in the dry cat food nightly no matter how tired I am. Not sure how her babies will survive now. :(

Sorry to hear that Sandra - how unpleasant. I know you're an experienced hand with lots of animals, but perhaps a local wildlife rehabber can take in the chicks?

Thank you so much, Gray. I really appreciate your empathic support. I can't find her chicks which may mean this wasn't the Mama Quail seen here this week. I can only hope. If I do see them I'll follow your suggestion- there's a place in ABQ that does wild bird rehab. 🐦🕊️
