Carbon dioxide (CO₂) averaged about 427 ppm in January 2025 10 years ago January averaged about 400 ppm Preliminary data from @noaa.gov: gml.noaa.gov/ccgg/trends/

Red line graph time series of monthly carbon dioxide abundance from January 1959 through January 2025. There is a seasonal cycle and long-term increasing trend. Current levels of CO2 are at 427 ppm. This is the Keeling Curve graph. A line for CO2 10 years ago is also annotated.

The real fun (as in terrifying) thing? When CO2 was at 419 ppm, converting all of the other GHGs into their CO2 equivalent resulted in a combined number of 534 ppm. With current CO2 levels 8 ppm higher, I'd assume the current combined CO2 equivalent would be at least 542 ppm. gml.noaa.gov/aggi/

"Note: The IPCC suggests that a constant concentration of CO2 alone at 550 ppm would lead to an average increase in Earth’s temperature of ~3°C (5.4°F)."

"For a time". It's always, ALWAYS, under the assumption that "we stopped emitting by then". Anyway, yeah, bring on CO2(e), please.

Well, obviously the solution is to shut down the NOAA. If they can't report on it, then its not happening.

Eh, still want an international CO2(e) standard. With methane and nitrous, that graph is a LOT taller. If you don't use those other GHGs, you may make the mistake of comparing to previous eras in earth's history, which would be a mistake.

Hey @zacklabe.com, good implied Q below re. if we could see the sum CO²e for the GHG. Do you have that handy, or a link? Kind regards and fervent wishes for the Lab's financial well-being!
