Even if they did, it would still be a win to distance literally the richest and most powerful man in the world from control of the government. Peeling off one extremely powerful member of their coalition is still a good thing. It seems unlikely to me that Elon will react well to being sidelined.

I don’t think he’s being sidelined; he had already said he would be stepping down in April. Plus he won’t really be gone, just hidden from public view.

You are talking about a man who didn't just buy Tesla but paid extra to take the credit for creating it.
