Working in a restaurant (customer service side at least, I’ve never worked back of house) gave me a lifelong appreciation for service workers- especially waitstaff I always tip well, don’t care if service isn’t top notch bc it’s almost always bc they are understaffed and being run ragged.
I passed this on to my kid, drove him back to a restaurant when he didn’t leave a tip. But it seems generational bc my dad (boomer) also worked service jobs, he will tip well BUT is much quicker to penalize if service isn’t great. He doesn’t get how it’s usually the fault of the house not the server
