Ok, I'm old, but lamps? Please explain lamps in classrooms. I'm really curious.

And things like lamps are even more important for SPED classrooms. ND kids can be *extremely* sensitive to external stimuli, including lights or noise.

Fluorescent lights are brutal. Developing brains really arent meant to be in artificial light between 4 walls for 7 hours a day. My kids, even in elementary school, got like 30 minutes of play. Gotta take those tests!!!!

Fluorescent lights also emit sounds that can be really distracting/painful to students. They can be migraine triggers for some people too (I always had lamps because even an hour in just artificial light will have me in so much pain).

I had headaches all the tome when i was in school. Had no idea it could have been the lights.

Often times the fluorescent lights had a low annoying hum…sometimes faulty wiring taking time to address. In the younger elementary grades, our students responded well with small cute lamps that simulated a more whimsical, homey, and relaxed ambiance. Overhead lighting is clinical by comparison.

Since my grandson is on the spectrum, you'd think I would have heard that! Sometimes he wants all lights on, sometimes all lights off. Thanks so much!
