More to the point, did anyone ever think a guy who drove one of his wives to suicide through rampant, relentless philandering was a good candidate for any job in any capacity whatsoever?

Yes they did, and they are the same people who think it's fine to elect a president who's a convicted felon, adjudicated fraudster and rapist, a serial and constant liar, and who was under indictment for serious crimes against the country. People with low morals and bad judgment.
