Why is the media defending military occupation of Americans?! WTF is happening?!
Why is the media defending military occupation of Americans?! WTF is happening?!
Pray tell, what "media is defending military occupation of Americans" bedsides the usual, daily ignored right-wing suspects like Newsman and FOX?
This one (the video clip I commented on) and Martha Raddatz for starters. Both reporters this morning said that crime is down thanks to military taking over in DC and strongly suggested that American cities everywhere should want that.
They merely cited statistics and the respective governors had an open microphone and ample time to respond. That is what happens in a democracy. Journalists probe without fear or favour. Take that way or sanitize it, and you have exactly what Trump wants and Putin already has.
I think this quote sums up what makes me concerned and maybe you can see this clip too. It feels to me the journalists are not just citing facts but also adding opinion that it is a good thing to have military occupation of cities bsky.app/profile/esqu...
I have no doubt some are, especially at FOX etc. But overwhelmingly not so.
I guess we just view things differently
I think so, but at least we can be civil about it.
“favour”
"clone obsessed"
You're trolling, right?
No, you are though.
💯 Some folks show up just to provoke—not to seek truth or have an honest conversation.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Real_Am...
Don't blame me, you asked.
Ya, I asked and then I had to google them. I get it, they are out there.
That's like, rock bottom, they host Bannon and Charlie Kirk FFS.
Because news outlets are owned by Republican billionaires
They like trump and want him to rule us like a king
Because our media is complicit. They have done this on virtually every morning show this week. It's fucking staggering.
Not on MSNBC or CNN, ABC, CBC or NBC. What are you watching?
I’ve had MSNBC all day and they have had segments on this every show
This CBS Video
What CBS video?
The one you're in the comments running your mouth about.
Back that up with some facts instead of mad talk.
It's right there. I linked you the facts.
The interviewer cited statistics. That is called reporting. To be crystal clear, I am opposed to Trump sending National Guard into anywhere. I support Prisker, Newsom and Moore! But, if you are afraid of a journalist asking questions, then I can't help you.
I’m sure crime was really low during the holocaust too! Why do people act as if siting statistics is somehow a rhetorical technique free from opinion? Pritzker should’ve called him out. But I feel like he was so stunned by the utter absurdity of the claim
Might I suggest he's asking the WRONG questions? Because we must have a conversation about the cost of this occupation. What is the cost of national guard deployment? Who pays for it? What is the cost to the community? To local businesses? To the people who are harmed? What is the cost of this?
Will add if crime decreases, what's the cost & plan for sustainability? And a response to D.C. citizens where crime is a real concern & haven't seen NG. Why is bothsidesism pushing back on Dems while accepting lies from Repubs?
Good points! And I agree. Journalism isn't always perfect. But it is necessary and that's why Trump wants to destroy it. I just don't agree with the outrage over asking any questions.
And what crime prevention programs (which are evidenced based) could have been done for that kind of money? Programs that would increase people’s sense of community and efficacy rather than just terrine them to say home.
Crime was already down. Big percentage drops mean nothing without context (did 3 carjackings go to 1?). CBS already paid their ransom to Dear Leader trump in exchange for his control
Right they could be using the highest number and say it’s down 70% from that - like what’s the data set?
The journalist is cherry picking bullshit statistics. Why doesn’t he point out the high crime rates in red states all over the country? Of course crime is down in DC! People are afraid to leave their homes. I hear crime is really low in North Korea and Moscow too!
1. Are the statistics true? If they're from the Trump administration they probably aren't. 2. Are the statistics essentially taking credit for trends that were already underway? 3. In a complete police state w/ a curfew, crime statistics would be lower. Does that prove a police state is better?
No the statistics were not from the Trump admin. The statistics are there. Anyone can take credit for them. Or as the various Governors did, argue why even so the deployment of the National Guard is not a good idea. PS> I am opposed, but not afraid of statistics or hard questions.
Exactly my questions. Where are these statistics coming from?
Bro- what the fuck are you talking about? This is some straight up blue maga level ignorance.
Watch the goddamned video.
You are afraid of a journalist citing statistics and asking probing questions? You shouldn't be. Because that is democracy in action. Prisker handled himself just fine.
Only if you promise to take off your glass onions when you do.
Angry at life too?
wow you’re dumb
wow that comment took a non-genius.
Yes all of them too.
Not so. And either you are totally gullible, or just misinformed. The Russians want you to mistrust and be angry at all media. And so does Trump. You are either one of them of playing into their hand. Duh!
Your assumptions are stuck in the early 2010s. We’ve learned a lot, and a lot has happened, since. The ease of access journalism and corporate media consolidation, accelerated under Trump, has turned the press writ large into a fascist organ. Try reading 2 equivalent stories in US vs foreign media.
The press I read is certainly not a "fascist organ" by any stretch of the most vivid imagination. In fact it is overwhelmingly vehemently opposed. btw. I read foreign media too.
You’re compounding the mistake that us liberals made after watergate, which was to lionize the press as incorruptible and interested solely in the public good. We over-interpreted one event and blindly defended the media class for decades as being on the side of liberal democratic values. Not so.
Not only was it not true in the 1970’s, it’s deeply, comically untrue now. These are profitseeking institutions whose owners are deeply invested in the fascist cause, essentially without exception. The virtue of a few individual journalists is utterly immaterial. The apparatus is utterly corrupt.
You claim "These are profit seeking institutions whose owners are deeply invested in the fascist cause". Some may or may not be fascist. Many just like the tax breaks. Aa long as I get access to great human, environmental and anti-fascist reporting, then I can live with that. That is what matters.
There’s no anti fascist reporting in any US legacy media and if you think there is you just have a tragically high threshold for noticing fascism. Which is true of a lot of Americans, which is the problem. If you can “live with” our current situation vis a vis the media, you’re part of the problem.
The framing of events is so funhouse-mirror crazy in US media that the downstream merits or failures of individual articles or journalists is beside the point. The gun is facing backwards.
you aren’t even american
Have you ever heard of dual citizenship? Or in your world, would that just be another clone?
That whole “the Russians want to turn us into a low-trust society like them” thing is true…. But it happened. It worked. And the reason trust evaporated isn’t because the Russians tricked us, it’s because trust really was broken (with their help) by all of civil society from the press on down.
“Oh Trump wants us not to trust each other so we should continue to put faith in people and outlets who have exposed themselves as corrupt charlatans intentionally shaping public opinion for obviously fascist aims” is bullshit. You’re just mourning for an era where trust was possible. I understand.
You know we can all see the video this is in reply to right? Please gaslight less obviously.
The only video that I posted was "Big Crime" by Neil Young, probably a different thread anyway, and yes anyone can see that. Are you actually trying to ask someone else your question?
Or, he could go watch Martha over on ABC. She's doing it too.
You mean her Wes Moore interview in Baltimore. Moore: ‘I have no interest in fighting with the president, but I have an interest in fighting for my communities’ “Asking me to deploy my National Guard" is "not a serious approach,” Moore said. That ABC Martha?
Yes. That ABC Martha normalizing troops and wondering why, if crime is down, why he just doesn't go along with it.
It's all propaganda. They've all been modifying how they speak so as not to piss off T****. Even MSNBC! There are a few ... very few ... who get to really speak their minds ~ Rachel, Lawrence, The Weekend mostly. I prefer Thom Hartman on Free Speech TV. Privately funded. No censorship.
Yes, Thom Hartman is great. And all your MSNBC name checks are great, but there are many more too.
Listen closely. It's disconcerting ... at least among the daytime talking heads. I became very concerned when they cleaned house of Muslim anchors (imho axing Mehdi Hassan was an enormous mistake) and Joy Reid. And why do they keep Alex Witt? She terrible at interviewing.
I don't know the details of either firing. And MSNBC isn't about to make their reasons public. I did like Joy! Fun! Mehdi I could take or leave. Alex isn't great, but I think her heart is in the right place. I also like CNN, CBC, BBC and France TV24 (Public). I should watch PBS more.
Yes ... before it goes dark in January. 💔
Yes, on ABC: see Martha Raddatz.
I didn't see the interview the same way. Wes Moore is a smart man, he can handle a journalist's questions. If he couldn't, then we start to worry.
🤦🏻♀️ This isn’t a question of the Governor’s intelligence or ability to handle a reporter’s stupid question. It’s a matter of the reporter accepting Trump at face value. Again, 🤦🏻♀️.
Did you see Martha Raddatz on ABC? She pressed Wes Moore pretty hard on why he doesn’t just want a police state in Maryland because it’s working so well in DC.
It is the job of journalists to show no fear or favour, and to ask probing questions. Only autocrats and dictators fear being asked such questions. By answering a journalists questions Moore, Pritzker, Newsom etc. reach more people and only gain credibility.
“Why don’t you welcome a police state since crime stats are down in DC” isn’t really a probing question as far as I’m concerned. It’s certainly not a neutral line of questioning.
Here's a clue. It is the answer that matters! Now, that wasn't difficult, was it.
No. The questions the media deem fit to ask also matter. Framing matters.
It is also the job of the media to push back on lies. The number of times I see a reporter ask a question, get a lie for an answer, and just move on like the answer was real is stunning. Being a journalist isn't just asking a question and accepting whatever answer is given. Our media is broken.
There are countless examples where I agree with you. I too wish sometimes for more pushback and fact checking. Take a Trump scrum as a prime example. But the stench of the lie hangs in the air and wouldn't if the question was not asked.
I saw that. She is despicable! Why isnt she railing against Trump for the continued suffering of innocent people in Ukraine and Gaza like she would if Biden was President?!
Instead she is pushing military occupied cities and she questioned Wes Moores military service!
abc did it as well bsky.app/profile/atru...
I'll say it again. It is the duty and the job of a journalist to ask questions without fear or favour. Wes Moore's a big boy, might be running for President? Great! He did just fine. You have nothing to lose by lightning up, except your fear of nothing.
the media perpetuating the idea that troops are effective law enforcement is dangerous and short-sighted. in the same way moore doesnt need our help you dont need to defend abc holding water for a fascist takeover of dc
This IS CBS
That is CBS? or This is CBS? And that? And the other thing? And I didn't even have to use capital letters for is.
Face the Nation is a CBS show & has been for decades.
This was Face the Nation today.
PROFITS
The connection between capitalism and propaganda is real.
Because the media likes Trump and wants him to rule us all like a king. Because it’s much easier to be a courtier and a stenographer than a journalist.
Because the RW has bought up news stations/ publications for this moment. Horrifying!
This was my big take away. Who the fuck is this interviewer??!
That’s Ed O’Keefe … and @edokeefecbs.bsky.social you may want to double down on true Journalism based on this sampling of feedback on your interview of @govpritzker.illinois.gov ((Time is short, democracy is on the line so why not tag em …))
It's what the media does during a fascist regime.
He could ask something like "what will happen after the national guard leaves DC?" No vision, no long term solution. WTF.
Media is owned by MAGA billionaires.
Wait til you find out how rich their owners are and what they do politically with their money
You know what kind of content and clicks they can get of troops patrolling and maybe shooting people?
The oligarchs have taken over the media, and they work exclusively for them now.
CBS doesn’t want to offend the dictator
Yes. 16 million settlement to drop a case they would have won was not enough. I do not watch CBS anymore. Though catch the clips here
