Maybe it’s because I am religious (to the true believer everything’s a sign), but I see these things as quite closely linked. Lovecraft was clearly atheist, but he believed intrusions from the beyond (foreigners irl) preyed upon a world whose meaning was adrift. But I’ll read your article, thanks.
