Lol i think it was tomatoes but Iβd have to check
Okah yeah it was tomatoes, then changed to pickles in the revised edition
The thing is, Gondorian expeditions to the "new lands in the West" that arose after the sinking of Numenor are actually established in-text, so it is totally plausible that the Hobbits would have access to New World crops like tobacco and potatoes.
wait
I still like the earlier version where they used airships for this
If you mean that Gondorians (or rather DΓΊnedain) were in contact with the Americas, yes. But this is all long before Columbus (and Magellan), and it was forgotten about in subsequent ages. It's also not clear if those lands were peopled yet; perhaps Native Americans are descended from DΓΊnedain.
Lost tribe of gondor
They prefer "Latter Day Saints" these days.
Latter day maiar
(greatest crossover in history of media)
The world is flat, but only for Elves.
Thomas Friedman is an elf
Okay yeah I remember this. I absolutely did NOT consider the implications lol. (Lost hobbit colony in Newfoundland etc)
I fucking hate that they do land acknowledgements on New Gondor TV now, the "natives" we wiped out were literally descended from Ungolianth in an unholy union with a nature spirit? This reeks of Morgoth sympathising crap
not actually correct recent documents indicate they were a genuinely new kindred of Men Eru planted there
Yeah I mean itβs quite clear from their own traditions! Are we just gonna discount the Dunlandic ways of knowing, eg?
This all implies that capsicums are native to the undying lands and elf cuisine should be full of them.
Elves also traveled from tol eressea *to* numenor
Seriously was just talking about this and I couldn't remember if they had tomatoes or not.
Ha yeah I talk a good game but have NEVER actually had the original text in my hand so there's plenty I don't know! So, like, pizza was retconned too? The ring induced Bilbo to lie about guac and pizza?
