My father, child of two immigrants who got here from Greece just before Congress passed its first aggressively nativist immigration law (the Johnson-Reed Act of 1924), piloted 35 combat missions in a B-17 over Nazi Germany. He didn’t bomb Nazis so that a cosplaying Naziferatu could pull this crap.

My father, who was a flight surgeon in India, Burma, & China came home amazed by the city boy pilots, 1st generation Americans, who couldn't drive a car or ride a bike. And one my bosses in the army was a two war guy who was born in Heilbronn.

Your father wasn't the only one. Many a war movie features a polyglot cast. The father of the Failed Spousal Prototype was also in the Air Corps, though he never made it overseas. My uncle, whose parents came from Germany, served in the Aleutians.
