Went to a Marvel comics panel at NYC ComicCon probably a decade ago. A joke from one of the writers always stuck with me. They’d use the terms “D-lister” & “fan-favorites” interchangeably because Marvel fans will always grab the pitchforks when you rank superheroes.

I find Ant Man to be a C tier character in the MCU. But I find Ant Man (2015) and its sequel Ant Man and the Wasp working for what they are. Solid enough action films ment to hold people over in between the bigger films.

The third movie Quantum Mania is just a mess. It tries to do something grander in scope but in doing so it losses the charm of the first two films. I feel like a smaller scope might have been the better approach after Avengers Endgame.

In terms of the comics and Earth’s Mightiest Hero’s he was actually a solid character. Definitely has the best subplots in both mediums and even a good standalone story. That’s my opinion anyway.

You know I'm going to argue he isn't and for one reason. Even before the mcu he was the iconic example of a shrinking hero. If he is C tier it's high C. However Scott Lang Ant Man? Yeah. Pym is all over Marvel. Lang less so

I have no idea what the Marvel comics fans tierlists would look like, but my argument is that it shows how amazing the MCU was doing if even the first Ant-Man movie could do good numbers at the box office

I highly doubt you'll get that...in terms of the MCU, both Ant-Man & Wasp are pretty lame, and doesn't help their movies are lame. As for the comics & animated series, I can't be sure for sure, but I like to think Wasp is better outside of the MCU

MCU Ant-Man is Paul Rudd, which automatically makes him highly endearing, rather than lame.

I actually haven't read many Ant Man comics, but he's really great in the Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon! I also like what I've read of him in the comics, his relationship with his ants are very interesting

He rarely leads his own title, had no major events or runs based on him, and there are a few ant-men. If they argue that's just the sort of people they are.

Pre-MCU Ant-Man was definitely a C-lister, especially the Scott Lang version After the movies I'd bump him up to B-list

In the comics, the Scott Lang version is even lower status than Hank Pym. But a good writer can make any character interesting. I really like the first two Ant Man movies. The family dynamic, the working class aesthetic…and Paul Rudd pulls it off with loads of charm

I mean, Iron Man wasn't exactly A-tier until Robert Downey Jr. & Jon Faverau came along, & that movie didn't even have a full script during production.

I wouldn't have thought so, even Iron Man was C-list at best until he got his first movie. The Ant-Man films aren't exactly top-tier Marvel anyway.

I think to general audiences he's a C-list, most non comic fans didn't know him before the MCU besides people who watched the Earth's Mightiest Heroes cartoon. I'm a big comic fan, I think he's a B-lister in comics because he's a founding member of the Avengers but isn't as big as Spidey, Hulk, etc

I thought The Ultimates was a big deal and he was a big deal in it and that’s why the movie happened.
