For people who don't watch. What they did was the equivalent of a mystery where you spend the first 20 episodes wondering who is gonna murder the rich guy. All the storylines are about the rich guy. And then in Episode 21 they just drop a giant rock on him and there's still 10 episodes left

Waverly Hills 9-0-2-1-D'oh kinda feels like the direct sequel story to Father Knows Worst, with how Lisa's side story is expanded upon. A rare instance where the episode order accidentally helps out an episode by prepping the audience in advance
After finishing my rewatch of Season 20, I am surprised how much better the second half is than the first half. Also it's interesting how they did back-to-back "the parents are worried about Bart and Lisa's education" episodes

It does everything pretty well, doesn't fumble any of its storylines too badly, doesn't do anything especially ambitious with them either. It is a little better than average at everything and nothing more. It sure is a solid episode of The Simpsons, that's for sure 👍

Yeah, it's really odd. It's the last episode in production order, so you'd think they'd do them all the same? My guess is that Fox demanded all the episodes in the new year that way, and that happened to be the first episode of the new year

Since all art is subjective (as you say), then statistically a lot of people are going to subjectively not like Disney's work and that's fine, it's not everyone's cup of tea
I monitor replies but it's hard to get to all of them. I would say that, if people are criticizing Disney, don't take it as they're criticizing you. It's fine that you love Disney, but not everyone feels the same way and it's perfectly valid to have problems with them as a company (or their work)

In the original script, I made a joke about Plusaversary being some humiliation kink ordered by Disney, but changed it to the image of Sarah Wiggum with her husband on a leash. 🤣 It's just so awkward seeing the show having to sink to that level

I am not really a comics reader in general but it's been fun reading the TMNT ones. The story is familiar but they tweaked a bunch of elements that make it a fun twist. The downside is that there are so many collections, so it would get expensive if I end wanting to read all of them

Not gonna have a new video this week. Been super busy in general, and this current project has been surprisingly tricky to write. So we're probably looking at a Labor Day release
I'm glad we got the 1+2+2+1 ending because I have always felt like it was the strongest (in terms of the mystery solution and the end gags). People like the third one a lot (mostly for Mrs. White's flames) but I find it kinda unwieldy
The difference in seeing it on the big screen was being able to notice more of the small performance subtleties. A lot of quick glances and business going on in the background that I had never noticed before in my many viewings 🔎
This film is very silly, and every time I see it, I enjoy Eileen Brennan's performance even more (Also we got the 1+2+2+1 ending) 🎉🎉🎉

My initial thought is the earnestness of the plot is the secret sauce, keeping it from becoming total nonsense. But it's weird. They're so tonally different that it should be jarring, but because they're so deeply committed to the earnest/goofy shticks, I totally buy both. It's kind of a miracle
I've only seen a couple Godzilla movies, but maybe I should get into them more. Kaiju movies seem like they would be my thing
It was fun seeing this on the big screen in 2025 where we live in a world of vfx and get to just enjoy the practical effects and the grungy set design of this film. Big props to the design of the kids hideout area, they did a particularly good job with that setpiece
Like you can tell they're limited in terms of what they can do with the fight scenes (and with the budget) but it adds to a lot of the charm. That it is less polished than a modern blockbuster, less choreographed, and you're just watching these big turtle suits brawling and doing flips and stuff
Watching it as an adult really made me appreciate the artistry of what they did with the Turtle suits. They still look good even today and the fight scenes are amazing to watch, seeing them have to do all these maneuvers in these bulky suits
This film is incredibly silly and somehow it works. My new favorite genre is watching dudes fight in bulky, oversized suits 🐢
I haven't seen the original movie since I was like 8 years old. Gonna be fun to see it on the big screen and as an adult, will be interesting to see how it holds up

I literally told someone years ago that I'm not interested in Magic type games because the game design isn't elegant with all the card memorization. And from playing Feh over the years, I have been tricked into playing something 10x more convoluted I miss the days when a weapon would give +6 Atk/Spd
Feh is notable in that it makes you pass an AP Calculus exam before installing

It is weird that he barely interacts with the main story going on. I wonder if they were afraid of showing the Lisa on Ice version on him, where they struggled in writing a sympathetic scene for him with Bart

I know I'm trying to "fix" an episode that happened so long ago but I feel like these thought exercises are fun to think about what endings would be possible given the setup. Just little tiny tweaks that dramatically change things
The downside is it doesn't give Marge and Lisa the credit for trying to help him. But even in that situation they could realize what he's doing to the crowd and laugh. It's kinda like the Marge's Son Poisoning ending
It fixes the agency problem by letting Bart address what they did to him in his own way. And it addresses his arc by him realizing not to put his self worth into winning the big game and ultimately rejecting it (and laughing at everyone who is still hung up on it)
Someone in the comments suggested Bart should see through the ruse at the end and prank everyone by intentionally failing over and over and wasting their time. And that is honestly an amazing fix for the ending and am kinda obsessed with it now 🤔
I don't think The Principal and the Pauper is bad. That video will be more of a "questionable concept but everyone should get over it" type argument
At its core, I think cleaning up the water tower and hospital scenes would improve the episode dramatically. But I think there is a really good episode somewhere in here, if it were more focused about what its goals
This was one of my more torturous discussions as I kept finding interesting core ideas in the episode, and kept wanting to tweak stuff. But because it juggles so many different kinds of story elements, I'm not sure what string to pull on without making the whole thing fall apart
