Starting a new job & going into the office for the first time in over 5 years, can someone remind me what to do
Congrats! Quick tips: - you have more time than you think - zero in on where you can add unique value fast - enjoy this phase, it’s rarified :)
Unlike in remote situations, I cannot stress enough that it’s virtually impossible to drop a deuce during a meeting.
How do I turn camera off in real life
Definitely keep food in the shared fridge for longer than a week.
Gotta move my snack collection in, in case I get snacky. It just makes sense.
Play the on-boarding/cyber security videos on regular speed. People will tell you they completed them quicker on 2x speed, but you don't want to miss a single word. /s
knock over the office fridge to establish dominance
Congrats on the new job.
I had the EXACT same experience. It's been 2 weeks now. Working at an office and having to interact with other people all day long is so weird.
Also, I just smile and try to keep my intrusive thoughts to myself. It doesn't always work.
Find coffee
We have coffee at home
Block off time for lunch and go for a nice walk around the office! (Assuming it's walkable.) It's a chance to explore a new area.
Don’t take it too seriously.
There’s probably a dusty hallway with a back catalog of old out of promotion devices somewhere.
Wearing pants is important, as is remembering that offices will likely have strong opinions on what constitutes "pants" and "wearing".
Pants! I've heard of it
To show your commitment to 'working in the open' remember to never use a headset for any of your online meetings/calls.
I will simply refuse to install Zoom, to demonstrate my undying commitment to RTO
Gave you mastered “walking” yet?
Yeah you press WASD it was the first item in the tutorial
Remember to have a stack of papers with you at all times. They can get you out of any meeting. "Well, I need to get this up to 5." (Or a person's name if there's only one floor.) Done and done.
With or without a clipboard?
Without. Why add unnecessary weight? 4 hours is a long work day!
4 hours including breaks, right
I've optimized it down to 23 minutes of work.
Make sure to finish the coffee pot. People love to see it completed and left in all its glory.
This makes sense. It'll establish my reputation as a closer.
