So listen this is a very Rovell opinion but the NCAA is still putting “Student Athletes” on signage even though we all know that’s a fucking joke. So what they SHOULD do is just call them “NCAA players.” That’s what a real pro league would do.

Had wondered about the robotic usage of that term by coaches and NCAA folk until I read an article by Taylor Branch. Going back to the 50’s it’s to avoid liability for workmen’s comp for injured players. Moral of my thrilling story - fuck all those people.
Anyway this game is a asswhippin’
What is the gender neutral term for 'dad dicking?' Because it's that.
half-assing
A real pro league would have insurance and contracts.
Yes I know that part
Remember that the vast majority of NCAA student-athletes really ARE student-athletes: that Div 2 gymnast is exactly that.
They gave up the pretense of them being amateurs, but they’re not ready to give up the pretense of them being students.
They’re not gonna give up their “they may make millions, but they still go to class just like everybody else!” delusions any time soon.
They’re even more strict on “student athletes” (written and spoken) than they are on their official cups. And they are *insane* about the cups.
I mean the NCAA isn't paying them, they are still collecting all the money earned by the players that they previously did. It's others (boosters) that pay the athletes
Do they go to classes?
Something I was thinking about. When was the last time you heard of a player missing time because of academics?
I can’t remember
Interesting dynamic when the student is a much higher paid university employee.
Put some respect on the athletes hustling both sides. You’re disregarding the academic all Americans and other kids working their tails off.
