I also think this is just terrible for certain demographics who may be limited in using their fine motor skills.

I’m gonna start a car company that’s gonna make new cars with proven technologies; gauges, round steering wheels, tires w/ sidewalls, 3-knob HVAC controls, real door handles, minimal software, and a simple screen for reverse camera and phone projection. Basically, 2002 cars w/ minor proved updates.
What I really hate is dumb stuff like this. Sure, lets make the expensive sensor package the first thing that gets destroyed in an accident. Even better for the off-road trims!
Say what you will about pure vision, but having EyeSight way up here, and also where it gets cleared by the wipers, is perfect. The only tradeoff is that Subarus don't have front parking sensors, but that's not a bad trade!
I love EyeSight, but I've heard and seen numbers how pricey it is to replace a front windshield because of all the recalibration needed.
BUT SAFELITE SAYS I DON'T HAVE TO HAND ANY CASH TO THE TECHNICIAN!
Lmfaooo.
I think we just all need to come to terms with the fact that a 2017 Jeep Wrangler with a manual transmission was the the last good old fashioned car
I'm going further back with the 2006 TJ as it still had the 4.0L I-6 and even less finesse. :) I had a 2005 Rubicon with the manual, and it was an old-school vehicle.
There is a reason why I own a Bronco. While it has some connected software, it’s pretty simple (steel wheels FTW), and in some ways, simpler than the JK/JL, but also better/safer.
Actually, looking at that photo, I'm appalled there are lights in the bumper!
I'm pulling that off and replacing it with a wood plank day 1
Until you have to replace the windshield. Then they need a complicated realignment and some may not work [well] with aftermarket windshields. Honda’s OEM windshields are often back ordered.
Subarus have like the lowest insurance rates. This sounds like fearmongering!
Yes. But there are pros and cons putting it behind the windshield, too.
Please provide these cons you speak of
Putting sensors behind the windshield makes replacing windshields more expensive because of the calibration required. And some sensors don't work through glass.
Yea, but even the cars like the X5 with the radar in the bumper also have cameras and other things behind the windshield, so it's a lose-lose.
Chad and I just did…
SEALED BEAM HEADLIGHTS
Don’t be ridiculous. I actually love LED technology. I remember studying LEDs in college, when it was at its infancy in the automotive medium, and was just blown away with the possibilities. If I had half a brain I’d have developed something cool at the time.
I'm fine with LEDs, just put them in a cheap-ass round housing and forget about "styling"
No. I’m fine with styling. I’m all for interesting and original styling. Which brings me to a point: service and repair simplicity. I shouldn’t have to take the whole front and apart to replace a burned out headlight.
Slate entered the chat.
Not what I had in mind. Slate is going for cheap/affordable. I just was shit that’s easy to use and it’s unnecessarily complicated. Simplicity can be a luxury.
"Simplicity can be a luxury" would be an amazing brand tagline.

I really wish automakers would realize that sidewall can be a luxury, and stop equating luxury with larger rims and lower-profile tires.
