Did you know that if you are pregnant in Alabama and need a diagnostic ultrasound - say for an ectopic or to check bleeding - and your Medicaid hasn’t been approved yet, you have to pay out of pocket? So, yeah, there goes another $250 out of our patient support fund….

I've read an article showing that the states with strict/absurd anti-abortion laws are also the states with highest costs for pregnancy and childbirth.

Not only highest costs, but UPFRONT costs. In our city, if you have private insurance you are expected to pay your deductible to the OB at 20 weeks or your care is cut off. We end up with a number of patients coming to us later in pregnancy because they can’t pay to continue.
