yeah my dad was actually iii but usually went by jr (because numero uno was long since out of the picture)

I once saw it explained as "senior" is the older living one and "junior" is the younger. It's not, like, part of their name as such and has no effect on their "number" if the family uses those. But I know nothing; I'm no...Dad Scientist, or whoever decides this.
