I also realize the immense privilege I'm demonstrating by off-handedly mentioning I can leave the country without the fear of not being able to get back in, not to mention the fact that I can afford such a thing (with difficulty on short notice, but still, can afford). 1/
There are so many people in this country who cannot afford to just drop everything for a weekend and go to a foreign country to pay out-of-pocket for medical treatment, or who are afraid to leave the country because they aren't citizens or aren't white and thus fear re-entry through US customs. 2/
I know "the cruelty is the point", but how did we get to such a place that approximately half the voting population in this country is so fucked in the head that they actually look forward to seeing people die of COVID/measles/whatever else?? 3/3
