Geocities still exists? I had a small site there 20+ years ago. HTML is tedious but not difficult. On the other hand, Perl is like someone who only knows English trying to write a program in Chinese.

Geocities gave you a lot of the tools for it. That's how you got all the websites with 500 very-unmatched animated gifs trying to load on the landing page while on a dialup connection.

Seconding neocities. This video might help for getting started (he has a CSS course and a combined HTML/CSS one as well). VSCode + the live server extension is a hell of a lot better than the default code editor for neocities. youtu.be/HD13eq_Pmp8

nekoweb and neocities have a lot of great websites and a way to search through just websites hosted on them... they're fun and could be helpful
