It's not one thing specifically (unlike Ronaldo, who is a terrible person for what he did in Vegas years ago) Messi had tax issues (so what, who cares) but it's more his attitude and how he's behaving in MLS

his field vision, his ability to move into open space, his decision making of when to go and when to pass. i just watched him NOT go for the shot off a cross across the goal because he had 2 players marking him and his teammate would have the open goal. the man is unmatched

Peak Ronaldo is a transition nightmare, a great finisher, an aerial weapon, probably the closest analogous player right now is Mbappe or a more complete Haaland. Elite player. Peak Messi is also that guy (minus the headers) but you also get the best creative player in the world.
