3/4 This is where Capcom took the name and design of their Yashichi, an enemy in their 1st games but best known as an item, often hidden due to it's high score or use as a 1up. It's a pinwheel / windmill but it's named after the character's hometown
4/4 Every copy & paste online wiki mentions bits of this with their only source being that it was once mentioned on an episode of Game Center DX. Decades earlier Capcom had already confirmed this in a Capcom History segment of Gamest's SF2' Champion Edition Special in 1992
So hopefully this is now the most concise and accurate English language information on the origin of one of gaming's most iconic sprites Originally posted by me on the other site back in 2020. Just moving it to bsky for prosperity
What are the middle three listed there? 左吉, トンボ, タケノコ -- I don't know my deep-cut Capcom hidden characters from the '80s well enough to know what those are referring to.
3 of Capcoms other secret items, the Star (there's a story behind it's name too which I'll need to dig up as I'm currently forgetting the specifics), the Dragonfly & the Bamboo Shoot
bsky.app/profile/ohfi... afaik there's not anything in particular behind the use of the dragonfly or the bamboo shoot but if I hear different, I'dd link them up too
Do you have the history of the Capcom Cow?
I love al the little secrets Capcom has in their games, the most iconic being the Cow, the Berry, Mobi-Chan, and of course...this thing. The most useful powerup I've ever seen in a video game. And it's the most versatile thing, too.
In 1943 and 1941, it's a Full Heal, and in VARTH, it's a MAX POWER!
There is nothing it cannot do💪
Yashichi was our enemy, it's now our true friend! We forgive you, Yashichi. Because you've saved so many 1943 runs!
this is one of those things i just never thought to ask about, but am glad i finally have an answer for
Oh my god I've been wondering about this for forever
